Reflecting on A Better Way: The 2026 Prayer & Revival Summit

For nine years, APC Ministries has hosted an annual Prayer & Revival Summit. Held primarily at the Appalachia Prayer Center in Jesse, WV, intercessors have gathered from every corner of Appalachia and journeyed deep into the solitude of the mountains to worship, connect, learn, and (above all) pray for the will of the Lord to be done here in our land. On July 16-19, we hosted A Better Way, our ninth Prayer & Revival Summit.

Over the years we have gathered around many themes and focuses, from gathering all thirteen states of Appalachia to the State Capital in Charleston, WV to having private and intimate prayer services during the height of a global pandemic. This year, we explored what it would mean to return to the Better Way of Jesus with a fresh understanding and determination.

More than ever before, this Summit was a fitting showcase of the multi-faceted ministry that we lead. What began as a prayer ministry nine years ago has now grown into a multi-state prayer coalition, a ministry school, a discipleship network, and many more projects and resources currently in development to bring lasting spiritual and community change to Appalachia.

For some, Spiritual Reformation and Cultural Transformation are areas that might feel contentious to address. For us, it's an urgent mandate. During several sessions of the four-day event, we targeted these areas and expanded our understanding of how these changes can manifest.

Joined by Mount Tabor Collective, a worship ministry from Mount Tabor House Group in Toronto, OH, we literally gathered around the table and worshipped as a family. We believe that there is a real call for the Church to pull others to the family table and serve them--and not figuratively. "We must get back to the way of Jesus. We must invite people to true community not just to a meeting on Sunday morning," Pastor Jay taught. "It’s time to open our lives and homes even as the first and early church did."

When coming to an APC Prayer Meeting, one can always expect to pray for states of Appalachia and intercede for healing, vision, and change to come to the people and cities of this region. On a powerful night of this Summit, the room lifted each state to Jesus and asked primarily for Faith. Faith to endure, faith to see through the visions that have already been spoken. Fresh vision has been given over and over for Appalachia. We know now it is time to have faith and action to see this vision through.

As prayer was lifted up that night, a grace for deliverance and healing was delivered to the room. Multiple medical needs emerged in the room which were addressed with prayer. People locked in darkness and addiction rededicated their lives and real spiritual change took place in the moment.

Cultural Transformation, it was taught, comes through the presence of Jesus in the world living through His Body. Not as a conquering and dominating presence, but as a light in the darkness that reflects the very life and practices of Christ Himself. Pastor Jay continued, "The world desperately needs passionate followers of Jesus to go into every profession and workplace and be salt and light and transform those environments by reflecting the value of Jesus wherever they are."

At this Summit, we also recognized the life and legacy of Pastor Doug Abner of Clay County, Kentucky. As a catalyst for the Clay County Revival, his life and ministry served as an inspiration to the greater Body of Christ, including the foundation of APC Ministries. At the very first Prayer and Revival Summit in July 2018, Doug shared the story of how he saw a profound move of God affect his home as a direct result of fervent intercession and prayer. We were honored to host his wife Linda as we celebrated and heard stories from their life and ministry.

This year, we also hosted the second Graduation for Pneuma Ministry Institute. This included graduating dozens of students who completed their First Year of Foundational Studies as well as students who completed their Second Year of Advanced studies. These students participated in months of intense and challenging training, working directly with leaders and diverse instructors. Pneuma was also proud to ordain its first set of Ordained Ministers--five passionate women of God who were recognized for their dedicated service to the Body of Christ.

On Sunday morning, APC concluded the Summit with a practical word from Pastor Jovannie Canales of New York. He continued to break down the core of the Better Way of Jesus--choosing compassion over noise and serving over self-promotion. As the room of intercessors sang in unison an oath to "Make Room" for Jesus, the Summit ended and we believe that those who made the journey to gather once again at the mountain of prayer were better equipped and empowered to go out and live the Better Way of Jesus, to demonstrate it to others, and to continue in faith to change their communities for the Kingdom of God.
